An Enlightening Moment

I had a long day.  Today at school was the first part of Virginia's writing SOL test.  The testing had so many rules and regulations, and there was so much pointless waiting around, that I was frustrated before the test began.  Naturally, when the day ended and I was back home, I was a pretty happy camper.

Every day after school, I go for a walk in a little wooded area with a pond a little walk from my house.  I went for two today, and on the second, it started raining; hard.  The sky was still mostly clear, though.

I could have started darting back home; I would have good reason to: I was soaked! But I stayed, and I'm glad I did, because I had a spiritual moment there.  The rain, which we usually consider to be "yucky" weather, was beautiful.

Why am I calling this a "Spiritual" moment?  Because I learned so many lessons when the rain fell.  "'Yucky' weather was beautiful;" I connected rain and 'yucky' weather to suffering in our lives.  It happens for a reason and we can learn to appreciate it; after all, we're not on Earth forever and prosperity will come of finding the beauty in suffering in the short period in our spiritual lifetimes that we have it.

Later, a rainbow appeared, and naturally, I did what any kid would do; entertained myself by chasing it and seeing if I could ever catch up with it.  I saw a lesson in this too;  we may not ever meet our goals, but if we don't try, what's the point of living?

In all of this, I learned one great lesson, and that was to live in the moment.  Spending this time in nature, I found peace by just abandoning my physical mind, that rambing voice in my head, and going with what my soul and intuition told me, and I loved it.  That is my message to you all today. When that mental voice starts running; take a deep breath and fall back into your true self.
